"I HAVE HERE
A COLLECTION OF THE WORLD'S
MOST ASTOUNDING HORRORS..."
ASTOUNDING HORRORS is a forthcoming print magazine about Classic Horror film and television. It presents fresh perspectives and fact-packed reminiscences of your favourite Monsters, Murderers, Mutants and Mad Scientists, from the flickering phantoms of the silent era all the way to the gory gothic grotesques of the early 1970s. It takes it's name, as if you didn't know, from the immortal words of George Zucco as Professor Lampini (above) in House of Frankenstein. And look what happened to him.
astoundinghorrors.com is the magazine's online incarnation, a dusty Internet Cabinet of Curiosities where fascinating oddities from horror and fantasy film history are exhumed and examined for your entertainment and edification. In-depth reviews and re-appraisals of both established classics and forgotten treasures share space with character profiles, movie minutiae and the odd few dubious opinions. Occasionally, we may even poke a black-gloved finger into the worlds of music, radio and the printed word, depending on what mood we're in.
ASTOUNDING HORRORS aims to offer entertaining yet thoughtful diversions for the serious student and the casual observer alike. Please stay with us, there'll be more to see.
"When I look at it, I see glimpses of a strange world. A world of people who are dead and yet alive."
"NATURE'S MISTAKES"
"We didn't lie to you folks. We told you we had living, breathing, monstrosities. You laughed at them, shuddered at them. And, yet, but for the accident of birth, you might be one as they are. They did not ask to be brought into the world. But, into the world they came. Their code is a law unto themselves: offend one and you offend them all".
ROB JOHNSON
CARETAKER. Rob edits, writes & designs Astounding Horrors from his home near Nottingham, England. He's been watching horror and fantasy films since before he could read, and has been reading about them for almost as long (see photo). His favourite movie of all time is An American Werewolf In London, which should tell you everything you need to know. In his spare time he works in an office and pretends to be like a normal person.
LEE H. CLARK
CONTRIBUTING WRITER. Lee (not his real name) also lives in the East Midlands and his contributions to Astounding Horrors reflect his interest in movies (and music) that expand the mind, albeit sometimes in quite frightening directions. His favourite writers are Robert Anton Wilson and William Burroughs, which should tell you everything you need to know. In his spare time, he has no spare time. Captain Clark welcomes you aboard.
Mlle. sosostris
SPIRITUAL ADVISOR. Lady Sosostris is skilled in the art of the Tarot and serves up sage advice and metaphysical guidance to the creators of Astounding Horrors. As the fourth-generation direct descendant of a fictional character, she lives entirely on the astral plane.
